Hiking Through Local Villages

Climb on the slopes of the highest mountain Africa's to the first base camp of Marangu Route. With its 5895 meters Kilimanjaro is an impressive sight, which most visitors already spot in awe amazement when flying in at Kilimanjaro airport. The rainforest zone of Kilimanjaro is thick and lush and home to many different bird and monkey species, such as blue monkeys or colobus. Make sure to keep your ears wide open to hear some of Kilimanjaro's residents.

Hike to Marangu Waterfalls - Home of the Chagga tribe

Immerse yourself in the history Marangu and its people. Marangu, at the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, is a small town with a great amount of history and ancient traditions. Get carried away by the Chagga tribe, unique rainforest landscape and coffee growing insides. If you want to swim in chilly waters don’t forget to bring swimming suit as waterfall lagune is safe for swimming.

Hike to Materuni Waterfalls

Materuni Waterfalls hike from Moshi is not just a hike but only an opportunity to dip in cold lagune beneath the waterfalls. It’s less than an hour walk from nearby village. With 150 m height it is considered the highest waterfall at Kilimanjaro region. If you want to swim in chilly waters don’t forget to bring swimming suit as waterfall lagune is safe for swimming.

Day Trip to Lake Chala

Lake Chala is located about 45 minutes drive from Moshi at a place called Himo. Although it is situated outside of the Kilimanjaro national park, the lake is an important geological link to the park. It draws its water via underground streams that originate form Kilimanjaro. This deep fresh water lake can be visited prior or after climbing the mountain.
NOTE: It is not possible to swim in this lake.
